Wisdom Wednesday: You Know When You’re Ready

Posted on: April 6, 2011

Your pace should be moving along pretty steadily, seeing as you are still in the infancy stage of actualizing your goals. For now, that’s a good thing. However, I must warn you this will not always be the case.  I’ve already mentioned how there will be times you will need to either move faster or slow down. These will be due to opportunities you are either a) prepared for, or b) need to prepare for. There is another gear shifter that will cause you to change your pace. That gear shifter – is you!

Yes, dah’lin! You will ultimately decide when you’re ready for more: more growth, more responsibility, more leverage. When you have advanced far enough towards your goal, the pace changes to match what you’re ready to experience. Keep that in mind as you continue to develop your goals during this stage. You may (or may not, depending on your beliefs) know the bible verse that says “…raise a child in the way that s/he shall go…”. Well it’s no different with your goals. At this stage you are developing them to become exactly what you envision it to be. Once the moulding is set, you can then determine what’s next. Here’s the thing though. You also determine when that moulding is set, so in a sense you will be the deciding factor on if – and when – you are ready to advance to that next level.

Never doubt or second guess yourself. Go with your initial instincts. If something within you is saying “Hey, it’s time!” then listen to that voice. If it’s saying “Ehh, let me think about it.” then you’re not certain and should wait until you are. If you’re hearing “What?! Are you cuh-razy!?!?!”  then your ego is trying to trip you up! Silence that voice! Seriously,  if you hear a voice tell you “Not just yet.” in a kind yet concerned voice, then it’s not time. Anything that gives you the feeling of self-doubt or self defeat is the voice of your UNTRAINED EGO! I call it “untrained” because it tends to work AGAINST you until you train it to work FOR you. That voice has no place in your decision making process, nor should it have a place in determining your pace. What you want to listen to is your intuitive voice.  That voice is the key indicator which determines at what pace you should be working. It will also let you know when you can speed up to the next level or slow down to stay at the level you’re at.

There will be trial-and-error throughout this process. Please do not beat yourself up if you slip up, miss an opportunity, or have burned out before reaching your intended destination. Just as there is more than one way to skin a cat (my apologies PETA…I don’t skin cats! I actually love the little furballs!), there is more than one way to reach your goals. Even if you do burn out, you can recharge. It’ll take time, and you may have to repeat some steps, but with your motivation, determination, and drive you will always be able to reset your pace and arrive successfully.

Set your pace accordingly and listen to your intuitive voice. You’ll know when you’re ready.
