Wisdom Wednesday: Know Your Why

Posted on: October 19, 2011

As you write the next chapter in your life – and your book – you need to know your “why.” What I mean is what is the purpose behind your writing? What do you want to accomplish? There has to be a driving force to keep you going. Do you know what that driving force is?

If you can identify it then you have all the motivation you need to keep going. When you don’t feel like writing another word, that “why” will help you create an entire chapter. When you receive rejection after rejection from literary agents and publishers, that “why” will help you buy another book of stamps to send out more query letters. Writing is hard. Publishing is even harder. Selling is probably the hardest. Your “why” should be strong enough to get you through ALL of these phases – and more!

What is your why? Is it strong enough? Is it worth it? Figure that out and you’ve won half the battle. Activate it and you won the war!
