“Be careful what you ask for…” – The Stigma Behind This Affirmation

Posted on: February 28, 2013

We’ve all heard the saying, “Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.” This affirmation is more damaging than it seems because the root of the phrase is buried in fearful, trepidus soil. The meaning behind this phrase is that if you ask for something and you’re not prepared to handle it, when you receive that “blessing” will actually be a “curse.” It is this very saying that I believe (and this is just me) has people remaining stuck in their comfort zone.

Let’s be real! A lot of us would LOVE to experience more out of life; be it travel, relationships/friendships, money (yes, I said it!), sex (yes, I said that, too!)…there are many, MANY things we’d LOVE to have more of in our everyday lives. Yet when we start thinking about them, daydreaming of them, and wishing for them – be it privately or out loud – there’s always that voice that echos the stigma:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

So what do we do? We stop ourselves from asking for what we want. Sometimes, we even stop ourselves from asking for what we NEED. As much as we desire to have more in our lives, of our lives, and from our lives we’d rather “play it safe” than tempt fate. But here’s the kicker…

…fate is going to happen REGARDLESS!!!!!!!

What messes it up is our PERCEPTION of this FATE. We are so fearful to ask for what we want because somewhere along the way someone told us to:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

We tiptoe through life as if on eggshells, praying that we don’t awaken the restless gods of fate and that they don’t curse us with what we most want because we have to:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

Well…I, for one, am done with the nonsense. The whole point in asking for what you want is so that you DO GET IT! The trick…the key…the secret is in HOW you ask for it. What energy are you in when you ask for what you want? Are you in a state of gratitude? Are you appreciative of what you already have? Or are you in a state of desperation? Are you feeling “lack?” If you’re in a high vibrational frequency – one of positivity – then there’s no need to:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

You can safely and openly ask for what you need, want, and/or desire because you are in ALIGNMENT with your HIGHER POWER and your HIGHER SELF and can rest assure that what you ask for will be EXACTLY what you want.

On the flip side, if you are asking out of fear, lack, desperation, or any other low vibrational frequency – one of negativity – then you absolutely have to:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

…because what you manifest, what you attract, what you draw to you is based on the energy field emitting from you during the time you profess it to your Higher Power. If you’re feeling grateful and positive then you never need to fear what you ask for. However, if you don’t feel these good feelings then I would suggest (not advise, I don’t do that!) that you re-align your energy field and shift your focus to one of positivity BEFORE you utter ONE SINGLE WORD about what you need, want, or desire. For if you don’t, then you really do need to:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

…and you might not like it. It’s worth doing a self-scan before asking for anything. And in the process, kill the stigma that you have to:

Be careful what you ask for because you just might get it.

Of course you’re going to get it! You asked for it, didn’t you?! Just remember that the energy you are in when you ask is the same energy that will be in it when you receive. So in conclusion, allow me to adjust this affirmation:

Be careful what you ask for…and the energy you’re in when you ask…because you just might get it…in that same energy.

Yeah, that’s better!
