Life will happen! Live anyway!

Posted on: August 13, 2016

Hey, Rockstarrs!!!

It’s been exactly one year, one month, and one week since my last blog post. *crazy, right* Needless to say I have missed you all something terrible! I feel like it’s time for me to get back to blogging – and my accountability partner agrees – so let’s get this party going.

What I want to speak to you about today is inspired by my own recent life changes. While I’m still in the middle of my tumultuous storm – and that’s another blog for another day – I’ve come to realize that life stops for no one, nor nothing. The world does not seize revolving and – in the current case – Mercury will still go into retrograde and ruin everyone’s lives and communication because, you know, that’s what it does!

However, this doesn’t mean you have to stop what you’re doing. Even with the madness going on all around you, it’s more important to note what’s going on WITHIN you. That is the only world you can control, and it is in that world where you will find your success. External factors cannot be controlled. People are going to lie on you. Traffic lights are going to be red. Humidity will frizz up your hair like a cotton ball and have your face looking like the Joker from Batman. These things are inevitable. So why stress over them? The only thing you can control is your response to them. And what should your response be?

Live anyway!

Let people lie on you. The truth will ALWAYS come to light. If you are a person that’s impeccable with your words and your actions, the ones that know you will automatically know it’s a lie and the ones that have never met you will soon figure it out. In the words of the great Dr. Seuss, “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” No one can persuade anyone to believe one way or another. Even with the most convincing story, it’s still up to that person to make their own decisions on what they choose to believe and/or dismiss. Respond accordingly by not responding at all. As much as you want to clear your name, or defend your stance, or tell what really happened…don’t. Let the situation sort itself out. You have bigger things to focus on.

Let the light be red. We already live in a world where everything is go-go-go and we want results in 15 seconds or less. Our society has been conditioned to believe that instant gratification is the right way – and the only way – to live. However, some things simply take time. The overnight success of a person takes ten plus years. The journey to replacing bad habits with good habits takes three weeks and three hundred repetitions to change the neurotransmitting signals in your brain. The audio book takes 6 to 9 CD’s, each averaging 30 minutes to an hour. Nothing worth having comes easy. Nothing worth keeping is maintained easily. So enjoy your red lights. Delays are a blessing. They give you a chance to stop, breathe, reassess, and – if necessary – change your course of action. It’s also a great time to check your hair and make-up. Just don’t piss off the car behind you when that light turns green. People are so impatient!

Handle the humidity with humility. It’s hot, sweltering, and blazing outside. The gates of hell have been opened and even the adversary is sitting under the air conditioner. You’re trying to be all extra fly and your twist out has officially shown out by 10 a.m. So what?!?! You can handle the heat! Remember, it’s not what happens TO you, but how you RESPOND that matters. There will always be situations that render us uncomfortable. We will constantly be put to the test to see just how much can we handle. Can we stand five more degrees? Can we do ten more push ups or sit ups or – God help us – squats? Can we work this dead end job for one more year…or month…or pay period? Situations arise to build us up, but if we don’t respond appropriately they can turn and end up breaking us down. Just remain humble and remember that you can handle anything life throws at you and this, too, shall pass.

FINAL WORD: Change happens to everyone. Sometimes it’s expected. Sometimes you’re blind sided and end up being pushed off the highway by a two-trailer semi and land in a ditch 700 feet off the road upside down in a stream flowing with dead fish that smell like rancid carcass. Then there’s the randomness in the middle. No matter where you reside on the spectrum of life’s crazy radar, you can get through it. Just go within, deep within – all the way in until you’re sliding on your own intestines – and remind yourself of who you are, why you’re here, and what you want to accomplish. Then and only then can you emerge, stronger than ever, ready to respond accordingly to whatever life has to throw at you. And it’s not just throwing it at you…everyone’s a target! It’s like a game of dodge ball where you didn’t ask to be a participant. Duck, dodge, and weave your way out of the madness.  Then continue on your way to success.

Thank you for reading today! Now go out there and make the REST of your life the BEST of your life! (Or however that saying goes!) Also, feel free to drop your own advice, suggestions, and/or comments below! I’d love to hear from you…and so would others. You never know who’s life your words might touch.
